Willen Lake was excavated at the west of the river Ouzel as a balancing lake for storm water. The south lake is used for recreation yachting, boating, fishing and there is a hotel by the waterside.
A miniature steam railway offers trips around the south side of the lake and the cable water ski centre is here.
The northern lake attracts many species' of wading birds as well as ducks geese grebe, almost 200 types of birds recorded ,
A hide is available for bird watching, The island is a nesting place for birds such as the curlew.
